Re: Holiday Policy:

Due to the limited number of runs available and our desire to assist everyone we can with their holiday boarding plans, SitSpot requires a 3 day minimum stay for holiday periods.

To be fare to all of our customers and to assist us in planning and boarding management, we regard all booked days as billable days regardless of departure date. We have a waiting list and clients who want to keep their pets with us and if a dog leaves earlier than the reservation date, we have turned down a guest that would have wanted the accommodation.

Beginning in 2006, SitSpot will require a non-refundable deposit for all holiday stays to ensure better communication and planning and to assure our clients that we will honor their reservations as well as do all we can to get them in should they be on stand-by for space notification.

(PLEASE NOTE: SitSpot does not have a quarantine facility and can not accept dogs requiring isolation or in-season females).

Training and Activities:

SitSpot prides itself in providing the very latest in proven, positive, motivational training techniques, methods and tools.

SitSpot is founded on the principle that training should be fun for both owner and dog and SitSpot conducts its private and group classes with this in mind.

SitSpot provides problem solving, training and activities for all ages and types of dogs. Course schedules are posted regularly on the website and flyers are available at the office which give detailed explanations of what each class offers and which dogs are best suited to benefit from the particular class.

Most classes run for six weeks, meeting once each week for an hour. There is a 1-1/2 hour orientation one week before each six week Beginners course, in which the principles of positive motivation training are explained and people are introduced to the use of a training tool called a clicker. The orientation is for humans only.

Jackie Earnshaw, co-owner and principle trainer at SitSpot Canine Center, earned her Level 1 accreditation through the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, (CCPDT). This is the first national certification for dog trainers. Jackie now joins an elite group of some 700 Certified Pet Dog Trainers in the United States, Canada, Singapore, Japan and the Bahamas.

Until the creation of the CCPDT in 2001, there was no true certification process for dog trainers. Many schools teach dog trainers and offer certification for their specific programs, however those certificates can only reflect the teaching and quality for that specific school. Other organizations offer take-home tests for "certification" but the trainers are not monitored to ensure testing is completed unaided and that the testing process is truly standardized.

The Level 1 test was created over a three-year period with input from over 20 internationally recognized dog training professionals and behaviorists. The certification process has been implemented by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the largest association of dog trainers in the world, to meet rigorous testing standards and to ensure that candidates who successfully complete the training and pass the extensive testing meet universal criteria for dog training and care. The CCPDT certification provides the dog-owning public with a credible measurement tool for choosing a trainer.

By passing the Level 1 examination, Jackie is now entitled to use the CPDT designation following her name. The CPDT designation conveys to prospective and current clients alike that Jackie is dedicated to providing the very best and latest methodology and techniques for successfully and painlessly training their pets. All certified trainers must earn continuing education credits to maintain their designations.

Boarding and Pet Care:

SitSpot's boarding and pet care programs were founded on a very simple principle: we simply wanted to offer a service that we would be happy utilizing to take care of our own dogs.

Having had show dogs for the past twenty years and having traveled extensively with dogs, it was quite apparent that there simply aren't many places one can feel good about leaving our pets for a day, much less days.

We felt it was important to build and offer a facility that wasn't just trying to fit in as many dogs as it could. SitSpot is a boutique facility with a capacity intentionally capped to not overtax the caregivers or the guests.

SitSpot's size ensures that all the dogs are handled regularly by trained professionals who actually like dogs and are concerned for their well being and happiness. SitSpot goes the extra step to attend to each dog personally, whether that is a special dietary requirement, medication, a favorite game or acitivity or just getting bedtime cookies.

We are focused on making a stay at our dorm as positive an experience as it can be for your dog and there are no hidden service charges or additional costs to secure that attention, that is just the SitSpot way of taking care of its guests.

The facility offers snug private sleeping quarters, ample outdoor space and activities and spacious outdoor runs where dogs are able to relax, watch the birds and smell the clean mountain air while they nosh on a favorite food dispencing toy such as a peanutbutter filled Kong.

It may not be quite as good as home, but we strive to make SitSpot the next best place for your dog to be.
